CASP, Circum-Arctic Sediment Provenance
Victoria Pease

This international project investigates circum-Arctic tectonics and paleogeography investigating detrital zircon U-Pb provenance.  Tectonics and global paleogeography are important for understanding causal relationships between tectonics, climate, and the origin/distribution of life on Earth. This multidisciplinary (geochronology, geochemistry, and structure) research targets Svalbard, Franz Josef Land, Novaya Zemlya, the Polar Urals, the Taimyr Peninsula, the New Siberian Islands, Wrangel Island, the Chukotka Peninsula, Ellesmere Island, and North Greenland. Currently our work focuses on understanding the tectonic evolution of the Arctic region and the development of the Amerasian basin. These investigations help to the correlate circum-Arctic terranes and orogens, and help to define the role of the lithosphere in this evolution.
